Ganesh is one of the most popular gods in the Hindu religion. He is depicted as a deity with the head of an elephant and the body of a man. Ganesh is considered the patron of wisdom, knowledge and obstacles. He is also the god of prosperity, luck and prosperity. Ganesh is often depicted with four or more arms, which symbolize his abilities and strength. In one of his hands he holds an anahata (violin), which symbolizes music and creativity. In his other hand he may have an akshamala (thread), which symbolizes meditation and self-control. Lord Ganesh is the son of Shiva and Parvati. According to legend, when Parvati took a bath, she asked her son to guard the doors and not allow anyone to enter while she was taking a bath. When Shiva returned and was unable to pass through the doors, Ganesh refused to let him in, resulting in Shiva cutting off his head. Parvati was so amazed by this that she persuaded Shiva to revive Ganesh. Shiva agreed and ordered to tie the head of the first animal they came across, which turned out to be an elephant. Therefore, Ganesh received the head of an elephant and became known as the god of wisdom and obstacles. Devotees of Hinduism often turn to Ganesh for help before starting new endeavors to overcome obstacles and ensure success in business. They also pray to Lord Ganesh to gain wisdom, knowledge and blessings.
